Appearance; Haru is dark skinned, which is probably do to the part of the Earth Kingdom where he was born. His eyes are a light green color. He wears traditional Earth Kingdom clothes. His hair is long, going down to his mid back. It is also a dark brown color. Like most Earthbenders, Haru probably has a muscular build under his clothes to help with his style of bending.

Personality;Haru is a brave and determined Earthbender. He shares these traits with many of the other Earthbenders of his nation. He was brave enough to practice Earthbending, even when he had been forbidden to do so by the Fire Nation. Earthbending was something that brought him close to his Father, so it wasn't something he could easily give up. He hid his Earthbending from his mother to spare her feelings. He isn't the type that would want to cause his Mother to worry.

He is willing to help people that are in need. He even went as far as to use his Earthbending to help a man that was trapped in a cave in, even though he had been forbidden to use it. He was reluctant to do it at first, but with encouragement from Katara, he did so. He also has a rebellious nature. He was the first to stand up and help Katara go against the prison guards that was holding them.

Haru is also a very courageous person. He was among the people that went and attacked the Fire Nation on Day of Black Sun when they had all lost their bending. He isn't the sort of person that would easily abandon someone that is in need. He was even reluctant to leave his Father behind after they lost the battle, but he went anyway to honor his Fathers wishes.

Haru also has a sensitive type of nature. He has been shown to be both kind and understand. Even to people that he had only just met. His determination, defiance and courage all come from his desire to be like his Father.

Abilities/Weakness

Abilities/Strengths; Haru has the ability to control and manipulate Earth, like all Earthbenders. He can compress dozens of smalls rocks into one larger piece. Using Earthbending, he can make Earth levitate or even make holes to trap someone in. He can also raise the Earth and use it as a shield to protect himself from attacks.

Using high level Earthbending, he can incase himself in Earth to form a type of armor around himself to protect himself from attacks or to do more damage when physically attacking an opponent. Using Earth as a launch pad, he can propel himself high into the air to dodge an attack and, upon coming back down, can either crash into the ground and create a powerful seismic wave attack or soften the earth to ease his landing.

His powers can be used to attack at long distance and close quarters. It's hard to say which it is better at, close range or long range.

Weaknesses; Haru can only manipulate Earth. If there is none around, then his power is practically useless. If his feet aren't planted on the ground, then his Earthbending is significantly weakened. His reliance on Earth means that should he be placed in open waters or locked within a metal cage, he becomes completely powerless. Only one Earthbender has ever shown the ability to bend metal.

A more psychological weakness is courageous and defiant, which can be viewed as a strength or a weakness, depending on the situation. He disobeyed his Mother and practiced Earthbending, even when he knew if he got caught he would be imprisoned along side of his Father.

History

History;Haru's Dad, Tyro was taken by Fire Nation soldiers when they came to their village to take over their coal mines. Because of this, Haru's mother forbade him from practicing Earthbending (although he continued to practice Earthbending in secret, as a way to feel close to his father). One day, as he was practicing alone, Aang and his friends stumbled upon Haru.

Haru fled from them, but they tracked him down and his Mother found out he was Earthbending in secret. Haru and his Mother allowed Aang and his friends to stay at their house for the night. While Haru and Katara struck up a kinship over shared parental losses, they came upon a villager trapped under a rock slide. Haru aided him through Earthbending, but the old man betrayed him to the Fire Nation soldiers and he was taken into custody.

Katara came to his rescue by posing as an Earthbender. She was captured by the Fire Nation soldiers and taken to the prison. There her and Haru helped stir up a mass prison rebellion and escape. Reunited with his father, and reinforced by fellow Earthbenders, Haru now has a chance of driving the Fire Nation from his home.

Since Aang and his friends last saw Haru, he liberated many Earth Kingdom villages.

On The Day of Black Sun , Haru is one of many familiar, but slightly changed faces recruited by Sokka to help in the war. He now has a mustache and small beard. Haru and his father are part of the ground forces attacking the capital. When the submarines were destroyed, the warriors decided to surrender, Haru promises Tyro that they will return to rescue them. The young people were put on Appa and sent away. They then headed for the Western Air Temple.

Haru has befriended both Teo and The Duke since the invasion, and upon arrival at the Western Air Temple, he and his two friends began to explore. They found it to be the perfect place to hang out and practice some earthbending.
